Get To Know Me

I've had my blog for however many years now, and still feel like you guys don't know me that well. So with that said I've decided to base today's post on sharing a little bit about me; what I love, what I hate, who my favourite bands are, what motivates me, my go to outfits... so you can get to know a little bit more about me and my blog Glorious Chic.

How did you build up the courage to share your first blog post?

I actually really struggled with this one and because I was in Sixth Form at the time the idea of actually sharing my first post kind of petrified me....you know how people in School can be. One day I literally just decided to publish it, after telling myself at the end of the day I'm doing this for me, and no one else...so if it makes me happy then just embrace it and feel confident I'm doing something for myself. Sometimes I still feel nervous sharing personal posts about myself, but these are the types of posts I actually love the most as I feel they are more me than anything else I write...which is why I probably get so nervous sharing them (I tend to pour my heart and soul into them.)

Do you see yourself living in London in the future?

YES! London has been my favourite city since I was young. I think the job opportunities in London are incredible and just the overall vibe in London makes me so excited. There's never a dull moment when I travel to London and I always feel like each time I go I do something different...I think that's sometimes the great thing about big cities; no matter how many times you go you always come across something new. So  yes I definitely see myself living there...maybe even in the next few years *fingers crossed!

What are your go-to essential clothing items and your go to outfit?

For the colder days (a typical day in England) my go to essentials would be denim jeans a graphic t-shirt and a statement jacket...can't live without the statement jacket! In terms of an actual outfit I'd say my BDG Kick Flare jeans, my 'New York I Love You' t-shirt, my Missguided mustard jacket and my white mules...oh and a little white bag to complete the look. However for the warmer months I'd say a little denim a-line skirt, a matching indigo jacket and a cute slogan tee.

What motivates you to blog?

Being totally honest I'm most motivated when I'm not stressed and having a break or travelling. That doesn't mean I'm not motivated when I'm getting on with my day-to-day life but there's just something about being relaxed and travelling to a place that isn't home that makes me even more motivated than ever. I have such an obsession for writing, taking photos and overall producing content so this is my biggest motivator, being that I truly have a passion to do all of those things, and blogging is one of the best ways I find I can do all of that!

Who inspires your style?

I have quite a few people that actually inspire my personal style. I'm super inspired by Lana Del Rey and her care-free sense of life and dressing...her music also inspires me a lot. In terms of other bloggers I am inspired by Megan Ellaby's colourful way of dressing and having the confidence to wear and look amazing in literally everything. I'm also inspired by Mary L Jean, I love her city style and how fun her dress sense is. Then last I'm inspired by Lucy Williams and how classic her style is: vintage jeans, basic tees and the most amazing bag collection. I love how each of these girls constantly experiment with their style which always inspires me to do the same.

Desert Island: What 3 things can't you live without?

This is so hard...I'd definitely say my family would be the first one. Netflix next, so that I can still catch up on my favourite programmes and my Olympus Pen camera...it comes everywhere with me.

What are your favourite three high street stores?

Zara is the first...if you know me well you will know how obsessed I am. Next would probably be H&M I love how you can buy pretty much everything in there. And last I'd say Mango I love their classic pieces.

What is your favourite place in the whole world?

New Zealand or California (I can't decide between the two.) I have been to New Zealand twice now and am in love with the natural beauty of the country as well as the fact it's probably the most laid back place you could ever visit. California on the other hand is so exciting and actually one of the only places I've visited where I felt at home.

Who is your favourite band and/or artist?

My favourite artist would be Lana Del Rey and band (atm) would be PVRIS! I always remember being in the car with my dad when I first heard Video Games and fell head over heels for Lana...the obsession has never ended.

Where do you enjoy eating?

My favourite place to eat would be anywhere with tapas (my favourite) or Frankie and Bennie's; purely for their penne carbanara.

What is your favourite film?

My favourite all time film would probably be Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire but I also love Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging...I'm pretty sure most of us girls can quote nearly the whole of that film!

What are your pet hates?

I absolutely hate when people cancel or change plans last minute. I'm such an organiser so I feel anxious when things are left to last minute. I also hate when people are narrow minded. I'm someone who likes to listen to both sides of an argument and wouldn't ever believe that my opinion should be the only opinion...so when people act like this I really don't get it.

Any Interesting facts?

I can say the alphabet super fast in all lower case. I've also never had a pet...not even a goldfish!

Style: That Festival Look

I hope everyone's week has gone as planned, I'm still not quite sure whether mine has or not. I mean I had a hell of a lot of 'to do's' and I feel like I might have ticked most of them off. One big thing I did manage to get done a couple of weeks ago was to 'update and freshen' my blog, and by that I mean 'change the complete look of Glorious Chic and make it a little more, well, me.' So I hope you are enjoying the changes as much as I am!

I'm pretty sure this whole outfit has been on repeat since I got the coolest fringed leather jacket from Shores the other week. Not only does it make me reminisce about festival season, but it also changed my persona to what I'd say was feeling a little cooler, and edgier ( something I would't really say I ever was...sorry Caitlin you were never one of the cool girls). I'm such a over-thinker when it comes to Summer dressing, I live for Autumn months: layering heavy knits with jeans, boots and a large oversized jacket...so when it comes to dressing for Spring and Summer I feel sort of lost, like I haven't ever really found 'my summer style'. That was until this jacket came along. For a girl who doesn't really wear tea dresses, denim is always key for me when it comes to this time of year, and pairing it with an oversized leather jacket...I feel more me than I have ever done in the Summer. Could 'festival' style be my style for summer?

I have been absolutely desperate this year to go to a festival, so dressing festival appropriate has got me even more in the mood to head to the nearest Summer festival, put on my denim, my band tee, my oversized leather and get to enjoy and listen to my favourite bands while roaming around with that care free attitude (god I love feeling like that.) The last time I went to a festival was Reading, and I've been absolutely desperate to go back to another festival since! I think this outfit would be more reminiscent of Coachella vibes however, somewhere I am dead set on going to in the next few years, and somewhere I can let this leather number have it's big moment.

But in the meantime, with no festivals planned, I will carry on wearing my festival jacket and listening to my 'festival' playlist:

Cassis Travel Diary

Cassis, Cassis, Cassis, where do I even start. This trip was actually my first ever time in the South of France, and I was pleasantly delighted that it ticked all the boxes and actually went above and beyond my expectations. If you follow me on instagram, you will know that I fell in love with the small quaint side streets filled with colourful houses, cobbled walkways and the most beautiful port and calanques that were only a boat trip away.  Talk about being a place to inspire me to an extent I didn't even think was possible...every time I travel I am filled with joy, adventure and imagination that stretches to every inch of my body. I aspire to be more creative and allow my surroundings to do just that....inspire, create and enjoy!

I am much more of an adventurer than I am a girl who wants to sit around and tan all day (I don't really enjoy this when I know how many places there are around me to go and see) and I want to see the places I go to: enjoy the food, slip down the narrow inlets of the street and watch the locals go about their day to day occurrences and watch behind my gold tinted glasses.

Things to do:

Cassis is mainly know for it's port and scenic side streets which are a must if you visit. Staying within walking distance at the Royal Cottage Hotel meant that everything was close and we could wonder down during the day to grab some lunch and also get dressed up at night for dinner. Overlooking the whole of Cassis on the top of the cliffs was the century old château (*castle) which at night was all lit up and shon the most beautiful light onto the most beautiful port. It really is such a picturesque place.

For most of the days we would have our breakfast in our hotel, then have a wonder down to the main area and enjoy roaming around the port looking at dream boats, grabbing an ice cream and prancing around the side streets. Paddle boarding is a definite which I have to say is so much more fun than I expected and I was actually rather proud of myself for managing to stay up most of the time and only falling of once...my dad on the other hand could hardly stay on, which did bring us much amusement.

One of the things you definitely have to do is take a boat out to see the calanques out at sea (a calanque if you aren't sure is a narrow inlet). The first calanque is a beautiful harbour, the second is extremely quiet however there were a few boats parked up and people swimming in the sea...oh and a nudist sunbathing up on the rocks. The third, which if and probably when I go back next time will be a definite must see, is a small beach which takes an hour and a half to walk to, or 30 minutes to Kayak out to...this is on my to do list for next time as we didn't actually get to go to the beach here as the boat didn't stop of *cries.

Shopping In Cassis:

Cassis is the best place to go to along the southern coastline of France if you are someone like me who enjoys 'the nicer things in life'. It was a nice escape and seeing as we only went for five nights, I'd say I saw pretty much everything I wanted to. The side streets have THE best independent boutiques full of Parisian wear that you can't help but drawl over, although they are expensive, I tell you that now. Even better than that there is a local market held every Wednesday and Friday which sells amazing jewellery, clothes, bags and food. The stalls are full of the cutest linen shirts, suede and leather bags and food that smells bloody amazing. Oh and dance lessons are held in the square which I so wanted to join in on, If only I could dance. I bought the cutest tan suede tasselled bag at the market on Wednesday and was super chuffed with it. The great thing about shopping abroad is the chance that no one else will have what you buy, especially from markets, so I love how unique everything is.

Eating In Cassis:

The food was absolutely amazing, even just thinking about the '4 cheese and cream ravioli' dish I had is making my mouth water. Eating in Cassis is quite expensive, and you would imagine so for what a beautiful and up market place it is. One of the things I did notice was that fish was one of the main meals in most of the restaurants, and being someone who really hates fish I was slightly worried at first that I would struggle to find anything I liked, however that wasn't the case at all. Most if not all the restaraunts served a few meat dishes, and the veal I had one night was simply amazing, not to mention the home cooked chips that most places served. But the best meal was definitely at Le Chaudron which is where I had the 4 cheese and cream ravioli which was situated in one of the side streets...that kinda just topped it of for me!

What to wear:

I do and always will view France as such as fashionable place...the Parisian women's dress sense is simply impeccable and really does make me envy the general etiquette and way that they dress and hold themselves. Cassis is definitely a place you want to mix completely relaxed pieces with fashionable dressier and classy pieces, this way you won't feel out of place. I felt like it was only right to take my new flared tropical print trousers, they kinda just fitted into the surroundings and made me blend in with some of the pastel coloured houses...which made for the best photo op. For day time wear it was bodysuits, denim skirts and floaty dresses as it was hot and called for pieces that meant I wasn't going to be uncomfortable. And of course a Breton stripe top was an obvious must!

Until next time Cassis!
